Internal Steel Doors for Acoustic Reduction

A double door set of Mondrian® internal doors were used on this luxury home renovation in London. The welded steel frames of the internal doors were made from the Mondrian® CWA-15 section which offers minimal sightlines and a traditional steel profile design.
Three matching door-sets were installed throughout the home within the hallways and walkways.
Each installation was made from a Mild Steel profile which was then powder coated in a matt black finish. All the glazing bars within the doors were true glazing bars and were a fully welded integrated part of each door set.
The locking box was elongated between two of the glazing bars for a uniform design and it houses the lever handles.
A key part of the door design was the inclusion of an acoustic dampening interlayer within the glass. Thanks to the bespoke nature of the Mondrian® systems a toughened laminated glass unit was able to be included within the glazing rebate. The acoustic dampening interlayer provided a sound reduction from one side of the door to the other. The main reasons for the requirement for acoustic dampening was to reduce the travel of sound from musical instruments through the open hallway and staircase.
These internal steel doors were retrofitted into an existing hallway. To make the installation as minimal and elegant as possible the steel frames and welded hinges were cut into the existing skirting board.
Steel internal doors are a popular trend in home renovations. Welded steel systems like those used within the Mondrian® range ensure that the new door-sets are in keeping with the traditional style of steel fabrications but adhere to all modern performance criteria; such as sound reduction.
This installation of Mondrian® CWS-15 was installed by IQ Specialist Works, part of the IQ Group.
